Every day, non-alcoholic beer is becoming more popular. Experts predict that it will soon reach one fifth of the total volume of beer on store shelves. While it’s true that non-alcoholic has often beensynonymous with bland and boring, Kokenhof is nowcasting off the style’s mundane past and offering beer lovers several non-alcoholic beers with real character. This particular beer is a variation of American pale ale (APA).

Three malts are the foundation for this non-alcoholic beer: pale ale, Munich and light caramel. These are complemented by two American hops: Citra and Amarillo popular with beer brewers all over the world. The beer poured into the glass is dark golden, giving rise to an ivory coloured head. The aroma is that of sweet and sourdough with the accent on the former, while the bouquet also suggests mango and gooseberries. The first sip is malty with hints of melon and a touch of lime. This is followed by a distinct bitterness intermingled with the nuances of sweet exotic fruits in the aftertaste.

Kokmuiža

Beer has been brewed at Kokmuiža since days of old. At the start of the 20th century, it was home to one of the biggest breweries in the Governate of Livonia. Its beer even won gold medals in Paris. Valmiermuiža’s Master Brewer and the driving force behind the revival of Kokmuiža Brewery (Kokenhof Independent Brewery) Aigars Ruņģis has always been interested in the proficiency of this old brewery’s master brewers in choosing the very best foreign beer varieties and giving them a Latvian twist.
